First Day If this is your first time, on the first day of your scheduled session, we would ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete the AHS Daily Screening Checklist and our Daily Attestation Agreement. Reversible Jerseys will be ordered once registration has been completed and they will take 2-4 weeks to be received.
Format: Each week we will focus on developing core fundamental skills. Dribbling, Passing, Shooting and Decision Making. We pay particular attention to movement without the ball. We will divide all the players evenly at the 6 hoops in the gym (Only 3 hoops at Eastlink). Each hoop will be assigned a “coach”. Our coaches are usually club basketball players that can help reinforce the skills that I or one of the other lead coaches will demonstrate. The lead coaches will rotate around as we try to emphasize certain elements of the skill we believe are important. The players will complete drills and we implement small competitions. For the remaining 30 to 45mins, the players will play in modified games. This may include 3 v 3 full court, 4 v 4 full court, 3 v 3 half court or a combination of continuous transition drills. It is meant to provide opportunities to put into action the skills they just learned. As a result, the games usually have a modification in them such as “you can only score by cutting backdoor to the hoop.”
When we divide players at hoops, we try to keep friendships, gender, ability, etc as some of our criteria but we also want the students to experience playing against other players. From a management standpoint, we try to keep the players with the same coaches so the coaches can learn their names.
There is 15 minutes between each group. We have built this in because if we are delayed transitioning from one group to the next, as we increase our cleaning protocols and adjust the equipment. The 15 minutes is required to complete cleaning, sanitizing and to allow players to check out and new players to check in. The 1st week will appear busier as we hand out reversible jerseys, accept outstanding payments and get into our routine. We will continue to bring the jersey’s to each session until each player receives theirs. We understand there are other time commitments that may prevent a player from coming week to week which we understand.
Payment: If you still need to make payment, we can do that on the 1st day by cash or cheque. We also have a Square reader that accepts Credit Cards but a 3% service fee will be added to the fees (the service fee is charged by the square reader). E-transfers are also accepted to swancitybasketball@gmail.com
Please make cheques payable to: Swan City Basketball Club
If you are unsure of whether you made a payment, we do have lists. If you have made payment and I mistakenly haven’t recorded it, please provide us with the date of the e-transfer and we can verify it. I have looked at the lists a few times but mistakes happen and I apologize for that in advance.
If you have decided to not participate, please let us know as soon as possible as we have waitlists for almost every single group and we would love to make sure everyone could get in!
Photography: We are looking at experimenting with offering an individual and group shot but that is in its infancy and will be done later into the sessions.
Questions, Concerns and Club Basketball If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send me an email and we will try to address them immediately. If you are interested in learning more about our Club Basketball opportunities, that information is posted on our website (www.swancitybasketball.ca) and our Facebook page.
We are very thankful for our very generous sponsors who have helped us offer our programs: As a relatively new Club, it has gone a long way in helping us purchase the equipment we have required to put on quality sessions. Thank you to Skyline Well Testing, Pomeroy Lodging, Spectrum Resource Group, Playfair Athletics & Promo, GP North Panago and Gillis Welding!
Part of some of their sponsorship packages includes covering the participation fees for some of our participants. All registered participants will be entered into a draw to have their money reimbursed at the conclusion of our program. In total, 6 players will have their fees reimbursed!
Thank you again, more information will come out periodically and I look forward to seeing many of you in a little more than a week!
Thank you for supporting Swan City Basketball Club!
